- The World's Second Largest Oil Refinery, India
IT TOOK INGENUITY AND RELIABLE MACHINES TO COMPLETE ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST COMPLEX OIL REFINERIES
WE HELPED BUILD THE LARGEST OIL REFINERY IN THE WORLD, SO WHY NOT THE SECOND LARGEST?
Building a full functioning oil refinery is no easy task, especially if it’s the second largest,
single-location refinery. Situated in Vadinar, Gujrat, this private sector crude oil refinery was
slated to have an annual capacity of 64,400m 3 /d i.e 405,000 barrels and is home to over
1,600 employees. The project first commissioned in 1996 was delayed several times due to
environmental concerns and several other issues. It was however, finally completed in 2006.
The Challenge :
Constructing one of the world’s most complex oil refineries.
The Solution :
To tackle the difficult -to - access areas and tricky concrete placement requirements the Putzmeister BSF 42-09 was employed, with optimum efficiency. It poured over 1500m3 of concrete and proved extremely reliable, working smoothly through the night whenever required. Also on site was an old BSF 2007 and 8 BSF 36-09.
The on-site team appreciated the efficiency of the machines as well as the after sales service provided by Putzmeister.
This construction of this refinery was unique. Now completed and fully operational it benefits from an integrated infrastructure that includes India’s only coal-fired power plant, a port, pipelines and tankage with multi-modal product dispatch facilities via rail, road and sea.
Concrete Takeaways :
- Putzmeister is the first company in India to launch a homologated BSF 42-09 on a normal priced truck chassis.
- Throughout its employment on this job site, the BSF 42-09 reported no spare parts consumption and efficiently delivered on every demand.
